Get to know me better

I'M A FIERCELY PASSIONATE EDUCATOR WITH COMMUNITY, EXPLORATION AND REFLECTION AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING I DO.

  • love teaching!

I have over a decade’s experience teaching Key Stage Two. I care deeply about creating a safe, creative environment for my students to thrive in. I use research-proven methods to give every student the tools they need to become confident, happy readers, and I know that success comes through nurturing strong working relationships.

I am a super reflective practitioner. What works for one class, is not guaranteed to work for another. Each year, and often many times within a year, I have needed to adapt my approach in order to cater for the needs of my class.

I have spent countless hours researching case studies and taking part in research projects myself, to better learn how to teach this way. And I continue to learn every. single. day.

And two things really stand out: to be successful, I have needed to build strong relationships with my students AND equip them with the skills needed to develop a love of reading.

Why reading for pleasure in particular? Simple! Research shows that reading for pleasure is singularly the most effective measure of a student’s future success. Those who willingly read for the single reward of the pleasure of reading, are more intrinsically motivated, and therefore more driven to work towards their goals than those who are extrinsically motivated.

Teaching is one of the hardest jobs out there and so much of it is a journey, with not enough training. BUT! I believe wholeheartedly in the power of community, and what can be achieved when teachers pull together and support one another. And just like that, Teaching In Good Company was born. Because when you teach in good company you’re never alone.
